Always, and ongoing, Thank You, if you have recently joined up with the CCPO. Those of you who are paying by EFT and have not yet made your pmt, pls could we ask you to do this urgently. We are still in "arrears" with our service provider and aim to be current by the end of November. We depend on your funds to pay bills and to forecast for future months. Contracts are still coming in steadily, however we are below our target and we need all of you to encourage your neighbours to join. From Athlone Park right up to Lower Illovo needs to be protected. Can you, as a member, just bring us one more member this month?
At the moment we have 19 guards on day shift and 15 on night shift. It is very far from being enough and in an effort to enable the guards to cover a larger area, KFC have contributed 5 bicycles toward this initiative. Thank you KFC for your ongoing support! You may have seen the guards cycling around already and they are definitely more mobile and more visible. If anyone out there has a bicycle sitting in the garage that is not being and will not be used, the CCPO would be happy to have it. The more guys we have out there on bicycles the better! Thank you to Tracy & Dale Campbell for donating their unused bicycle!
We would like to challenge the Banks to join ABSA bank in the CBD area in the fight against crime. FNB, Nedbank and Standard Bank customers all benefit from the presence of the guards.Thank you ABSA for being the only bank at this point to support this community project by donating R1000 pm towards the CCPO and for supporting the people that support you.
During the month of August, a few guards stood out amongst the group, as meeting and achieving beyond our expectations. One guard handed back a wallet to a member of the community contaning R2 000 and then refused a R100 token of appreciation, stating that he was just doing his job. Another was spotted escourting 2 elderly people through a dark area at night. Another was commended for spotting a suspicious vehicle and reporting it immediately. The vehicle had false plates on it, and those plates related to another stolen vehicle! KFC provided meals for these guards to say "thank you".
We now have CCPO bumper stickers! Pls pop in to Tracy at your CCPO office to collect yours and help us to create an awareness of your CCPO and what it's about. They will also be available shortly at all our drop off points.
We are in possession of demo cd's on courses in self-defence offered by an ex Israeli Special Forces member. He comes highly recommended and anyone who wishes to have a look at the cd, please pop in and see Tracy at the CCPO office. As we're growing there's just more and more news and the newsletter is growing longer and longer. We have decided to edite incidences each week and the balance will be posted onto our web-site. We are aware that the website is out of date but we have had a number of internet problems lately, and our Web Guy, Gary, is away on leave at the moment. We shall advise as soon as our new look website is up and running.

21h20 (Reported in the newspaper)
A CCPO committee member received a call from a CCPO member at about 9.30pm saying that he was with a lady at the garage in Warner Beach who had just had a gun pointed at her at the traffic lights at the inter-section of Kingsway & Umdoni Rd (by Kingsway High School). The committee member radio'd Les Spence who in turn alerted the Metro Police and SAPS. Metro Police's Craig White arrived on the scene within minutes, with CCPO and SAPS hot on their heels. They arrested 3 of the 4 suspects at the intersection. (Yes, they were sitting there waiting for the next victim) One ran into the bush. One suspect was armed with a 45 revolver which was registered to the brother of the suspect who worked at the Scottburgh Police Station. The dog squad were called in but could not trace the 4th suspect. The dog followed the spoor to the freeway fence. Explosive dogs were brought in to search for firearms - none were found. SAPS flying squad and SAPS Brighton Beach also assisted at the scene.
Please, report everything and anything. We try to respond to everything! The trend is for hi-jackers to pounce near a bridge/intersection where they have quick access down onto the freeway. Pls wind your windows up when you are coming to a stop street and keep your eyes open.
Thanks to everyone involved for their fantastic support.

I have just received some disturbing news today.
A young woman dropped off her kids at her mom's on her way to work. She never arrived at work. She is still missing. She was driving a new silver Toyota Yaris. Women traveling alone are now the targets for gangs. They have been instructed to bring a woman's body part to their gatherings. Please ensure that you lock all your doors when traveling.
Pass this on to all the ladies you know who travel alone.
And pls. men tell your wives to be very careful.
BE SAFE !!

Carol at No. 13 caught some visitors jumping over her hedge and into her garden the other morning (think it was Thursday last week). Fortunately her dog was barking madly and they ran off without any harm coming to Carol apart from her receiving a huge fright and her hedge being badly damaged. Pam (#14) & Helen (#12) were around at the time to make sure she was OK and stayed in touch with her. I know when Carol spoke to me she was really grateful to both ladies for their concern / assistance.
The 2nd incident took place on the early hours of Sunday morning, when Kevin & Hellen had yet more visitors in their garden which set off their robo-guards. It appears this was an attempted break-in and they called the police who arrived within 4 minutes!! Helen also wanted me to communicate how quickly and efficiently the police responded to their situation.
After the incident on Saturday night, I contacted the CCPO who were able to assist in dispatching additional guards to our area A BIG THANK YOU!!!
Its important that we are all aware of these incidents and Ive copied Cindy from CCPO on this communication as well, as they are constantly monitoring where the hot spots are and it enables them to work more strategically. I also think its important for this positive feedback regarding our police to be communicated to the right people.
If you havent already done so, please give some serious thought to joining the CCPO as the benefits speak for themselves!!
Mrs Karen Santowski fro 29 Kiaat place Doon heights says that on Friday night 24/08/2007 in the rain thieves broke into their bakkie in the driveway...house fully fenced...was reported to police
NOTE OF THANKS
- I would like to commend your guards for doing their duty on Wednesday night 22/08/07 Thursday morning 23/08/07 at 12.30 a.m. my beams alarm went off in my garden, I live at 2 Oceanview Rd, Winklespruit, and the Chubb response was alerted and arrived at my premises but by the time Chubb arrived your 2 guards were already outside my house. They patrolled the premises with the Chubb guard and assured me that all was well. I am about the only resident in my immediate area who is paying for your service and I must say that your guards are visible around the area. It is a shame that your guards are patrolling the area and only a few people are paying for your service.
Thank you
Vera Broskie - Having just read the newsletter and the comments of some of our residents, I thought I should mention that there are many people like us who live in an area where the incidence of crime is a little lower and are happy to be contributors to the CCPO effort. I take comfort in the knowledge that if the crime increased in our road/area, there are resources on tap to move into the area and sort it out.
The CCPO team are doing a great job and it is appreciated.
Keep up the good work.
Regards,
Doug and Karen Wishart.
Unil next time, stay safe.
