Warning - Eskom
Warning from SAPS - always check ID of someone at your gate. The SAPS is sending out a warning about a group claiming to be from the electricity department. They may not have targeted your area (yet) but please be aware of their modus operandi. - One of the suspects arrives at the house alone and informs the residents that he is from the Electricity Dept and needs to make an appointment to return in 3 days time in order to fit a cover to the geyser for the purpose of saving electricity. He asks for permission to enter and to be shown the geyser.
- No identification is shown and three days later the suspect and 3 others, dressed identically - brown pants and yellow t-shirts bearing the word ELECTRICITY DEPT, and carrying toolboxes, arrive.
- They proceed directly to the geyser and start working. As soon as the occupants relax, they are held up at gunpoint, tied up and the premises are robbed.
Please remind everyone living or working on your property (especially domestic workers and children) not to allow any strangers in and please remember to ask anyone "official" for identification and follow up with the relevant department, before allowing them in.
What do the CCPO do all day?
Hi everyone We have a total of 36 guards, 18 day shift guards and 1 day shift supervisor, 14 night shift guards and 1 night shift supervisor. There are at most 4 CCPO guards in the CBD. The guards in the CBD are continuously catching shoplifters in The Hub, Mr Price etc (as seen in the OB report below). ATM robberies are being prevented and vagrants and illegal traders are continually being removed. The guards continuously monitor and report suspicious vehicles in the area. If people could just cast their minds back to a year ago, and remember what the Toti CBD was like... Bizana! If you are not seeing guards in your area, you must be living in a relatively safe road. The guards are posted according to crime stats and therefore it is important for the community to inform us if you are having a problem in your area. We'd step up the patrols, allocate guards to the area and inform SAPS & Metro. From experience and stats, we've noticed how the criminals work an area for a while until you up the security presence and make it difficult for them. They then seem to move on. Please don't cancel your subscription. The only way we can increase the number of guards out there and prevent crime, is with your support. Your R100 is going straight back into securing your community, not paying any directors or shareholders. Quinton and I always say, "If the community could listen to our CCPO radio for just a day, they'd be gob-smacked at what the CCPO are doing". Thanks everyone for your support! FROM Toti Crime at Yahoo Groups - I Have to Agree
I still have to see one of the guards patrolling Lewis drive. They always seem to be in toti central .I will be canceling end of the month.
- All I can say is that what do the CCPO do all day in front of the Hub when it seems that most of the "going on" is there??

Dear Everyone, Not all who read this are members so . If you are not yet a member of the CCPO, then please complete the contract and join today. We do apologise for the delay in some of these reports but it is a slow, time consuming job, which hopefully is now back on track. Thank you Kay Leigh. Message from Richard of the CCPO Committee Please warn your maids to be on the alert they are often at the scene when there is a robbery and they are not treated better because they are the hired help. Show them where the panic button is and encourage them to keep the house locked while they are working. If they feel threatened even if it might seem trivial at the time rather push the panic or phone SAPS or CCPO. Be vigilant and don't let your guard down because they are driving a flashy car or look well dressed, in fact be even more suspicious. From Richard in Athlone Park (good thing you still have a sense of humour, it gets us through many a dark hour) Sat 22nd March On Saturday afternoon at about 12:30 I was sitting in the lounge watching the News (the rest of the family was out for the morning thankfully) when the dogs started barking and the gate intercom started ringing. I turned and saw a black male looking over the wall (with a look of intent) so I grabbed the CCPO radio and ducked low and called for CCPO and Police backup. I went upstairs and got my 9mm ready and then watched from an upstairs window. The ringing had finally stopped and one guy was now tampering with the gate motor. I informed CCPO what was going on and went and waited at the top of the stairway. About a minute later I heard the back door being kicked in followed by some hello, hello as they came into the kitchen. I few seconds later they walked around to the bottom of the steps where they discovered they were not alone. 2 shots later they were heading for out with such haste that they did not even take wallet, phone or laptop which were on the table next to them on the way (obviously they were not intending to rob but were just looking for a drink of water and maybe work?) I managed to fire another five rounds at the very nice BMW 3 series new shape which was now parked in my driveway, which was probably stolen as it had false plates registered to a ford bantam ( but judging by my poor shooting 7 shots and no bodies, with my eyesight it could have been a bantam, so if it was your car I am sorry it now has a broken window and some new vents) They left rather quickly after that!!. The response from SAPS was excellent as half of Toti was there in under two minutes, pity I couldn't have stalled the nice people any longer (they were probably on a tight schedule so many places to rob not enough time) Also good work from Les and Tango 2 who knowing what was going on via the radio tried to spot them on the highway (they were followed by Tango2 as far as Greyville so clearly not locals). Good advice to pass on watch out for the unexpected, these guys were well dressed, in a fancy car (Bantam) acting very casually. Don't go out if you are not at all sure who is calling you outside even if it sounds half legit such as rates evaluator. Have an emergency number programmed for quick dial in case of an emergency, and always have a plan of action for possible events.
I must go now as the razor wire is being delivered and the security guards want to know where to be posted. The kids are clearly not stressed out as all they are concerned about is the new computer game they have just bought is not working, so I need to cancel the trauma councillor and get hold of a computer technician instead.
Keep Well Richard Cindy has added her say. In the early hours of 25/03/08 , Raj from 13 Spencer Rd saw some "unwanteds" tampering with his electric fence again. He called the SAPS and CCPO who responded but no suspects were found. Creepily, our indoor passive was activated about 15 minutes after Raj called to tell us what had happened. The CCPO responded and had a look around but nothing suspicious was found.
Just some information about a break in that happened today in Stockdale Rd in Winkle. Suspects rang the door bell asking for work. The maid was alone at home and said there was no work. A few minutes later, the suspects were inside and beat the maid up brutally. They cleaned the house out and trashed it while they were at it. They phoned a get away car, which was seen driving up and down in the area waiting for the call and off they went.....
Lastly, the suspects seem to be driving fast, fancy cars.... please call in anything you think may be suspicious. Rather be a pain in the butt. The other day I had a panic attack because I saw a well dressed man strolling into a neighbours yard. It turned out to be the gardener and I did feel rather silly.... but unfortunately, I feel that's the way we need to be. If we are always aware, they will not catch us off guard very easily. Freda advised us that at Wicks Rd March 12th During the evening, presumably during the rain storm, someone Came in to our property and removed a flower box at our office window, To get access to a burglar proofed window, And used a broom to steal a laptop computer off the office desk. We also found another window unlashed but nothing seems missing. Our electronic gate is also not working this morning, so not sure if tampered with or caused by the rain storm. Until next report
Take Care Everyone! Tracy Campbell

Dear Members, Remember the Emergency number is 083 393 5066. I have had two emergencies phoned through to the office this week. Do you have the correct number? Please ask our older members who often do not have e-mail and do not receive my messages. This is a community project. Please help each other. You have probably all seen the newspaper by now and know that CCPO and Secure Logic lost one of our security team, Mr. Mandla Zulu, whilst on patrol this week. Our condolences go out to his family. Here was a man who lost his life trying to help in Creating a safer place to live...together! Therefore I continue to urge you to sign up and make your neighbour join. My comment at the end of the CCPO Members letter upset a community member, who objected to being called a freeloader. This person?s suggestion was that perhaps those that can afford it, sponsor pensioners who are unable to. That is your job, you voted for the CCPO now make it work. Look around and see who you can help. A reminder, about our efforts to raise funds for our own vehicles. Don?t forget to put your contribution into the CCPO Vehicle Fund ABSA Amanzimtoti Branch 632005 9197419464 Members reports22/02/08 - Julie advised
I live in Hudd Road. Last week in the early hours, the dogs in the area were all barking and were really excited. My Dad lives in a flat in our back garden, and a black man tried to climb in his bedroom window. My Dad shouted at him and he left. An alarm was going off in Linscott Rd at the same time and ADT were racing up and down that road. I telephoned Chubb, who did an inspection of the property, but nobody was about.

When the phone rings at 8am on a Monday morning and it is someone to report about a guard, you just think oh Boy!, what now?
Well Sunday 9th March +/- 4pm outside Toti Post Office, and old lady got off the bus from Jhb. She was one hour early, and pretty mortified to find herself alone. A man sauntered up to her from the tavern across the road, and she was very nervous. Then out of the wood work appeared one of our guards who stood his distance and just waited there, until her family arrived to collect her. Acknowledged their thanks with a slight smile and wandered off to continue his patrols. They were very impressed and would like that guard to be commended.
What a GOOD story to start the week with.
06/03/08 - Secure Logic advised us that
They were notified by a resident who knows that the vehicle used in the Valley Road attack on a resident by 3 b/m's posing as members of the labour department was a white ford Telstar sedan. Member requested this to be a warning and be put into the CCPO newsletter.
Members are asked to make sure that they do not leave themselves open to criminals who are always on the look out for easy pickings. If you have security gates ensure that you use them. Holidays mean more people around and plenty opportunities for those looking to take advantage of others. This Easter look after yourselves, and stay vigilant. Happy Easter to you all from the members of the CCPO Committee and Staff. Stay safe, speak to you soon. Tracy Campbell

Please be careful and warn everyone you know!
We all hear about these incidents and hope it never happens to anyone we know, however the latest styles used by would be hi-jackers are far more horrific than ever before. Because of the new gun laws and stricter rules regarding ammunition, Hijackers have turned their attention to using Pool Acid, this acid is kept in a syringe or even a small plastic and then used to blind daze and disorientate the driver of the vehicle, it also assists them with getting away from the scene more readily. Please do not wind down your windows ,even a small bit at any intersections whatsoever. Please see below attached report from Discovery Health. Lets be carefull out there! Regards Deirdre' Viljoen Junior Forensic Investigator Special Investigating Unit Tel: 012 843 0043 Cell: 082 470 8458 Fax: 0866 182 879 Attached ReportGavin Osmond (one of our engineers at Discovery) was involved in an attempted hi-jacking on Wednesday night in Rivonia, where a young perfectly nice-looking white guy convinced him into winding down his window at a robot, informed him that he wanted his car and then threw ACID IN HIS FACE!!! Gavin's face was burned extensively and the membranes have been burned off his eyes. He was temporarily blind for a few hours. He is undergoing daily treatments and it will be several months before his eyes recover properly. DO NOT WIND DOWN YOUR WINDOW FOR ANYONE!!! Tell your friends and family to be careful.

Cindy says,
I just wanted to clarify the objectives of the CCPO (Community Crime PREVENTION Organisation). It cannot by any means be compared to the reaction units out there and it is not solely focused on your properties.
The CCPO is a non-profit organisation. The money raised by the CCPO goes back into the community. The purpose of the CCPO is "pro-active policing". The guards on foot or bicycles are concerned with securing your entire environment from when you sleep in your beds at night, to when you reverse out of your driveway to go to work, to walking your dogs and drawing money from the ATM.
Guards are placed in "hot spots" around your community, based on stats received from the SAPS at weekly meetings between all concerned, and the CCPO OB entries, and determined by the CCPO Operations Manager. These guards are continually reporting suspicious vehicles and checking their registrations, questioning loiterers and chasing suspects. They endeavour to prevent people scaling your walls and breaking into your homes.
The CCPO respond to calls when possible, however its primary function is to co-ordinate the services of the SAPS, Rapid Response, Ambulances or Safecare in the event of an emergency. In the case of a hi-jacking, armed robbery or house-breaking etc, guards are picked up by the supervisors and dropped off in strategic places to track down and block off criminals. The rest of the time, the guards are a visible deterrent and the supervisors are continually out there, patrolling your streets - not parked under a tree on a street corner waiting for an alarm to go off. The main objective is to be pro-active, not reactive.
It's so easy to become despondent with everything that is happening in our country. But negativity does nothing for anyone. It doesn't make things better and it makes the people that cannot leave SA feel helpless. Those people have no choice but to make the best of a bad situation. So those of us left, let's do what we can to make this better.
The CCPO is a prime example of how to turn a bad situation into a better one. It was formed and is driven by a committee and staff who are passionate about "creating a safer place to live... together". 2 800 members of your community have taken responsibility for their home town, by supporting the CCPO. The CCPO assists in dealing with petty crime and day to day occurrences which the police are battling to attend to, and thereby freeing them up to attend to the more serious incidences. A strong network between the CCPO, SAPS, Metro and the security companies has been born, which creates a united front against crime. The CCPO has made numerous arrests, averted so many crimes you will never know about and made our streets safer with just R200 000 a month. Imagine what they can achieve with everyone's support.
We can argue that the government should be sorting this out and that we all pay our taxes, but it doesn't help anyone. Just as we pay for private healthcare and schooling, we need to pay for our safety. So stop complaining and DO something about your situation.
Most of you receiving this are members of the CCPO if not, Phone Tracy on 031 9140132 and make a change TODAY.
It?s not about colour it?s about behaviour
'They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: - Why you ain't,
- Where you is,
- What he drive,
- Where he stay,
- Where he work,
- Who you be...
And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what ? ? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics. I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2 ? ? Where were you when he was 12 ? ? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol ? ? And where is the father ? ? Or who is his father ? People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something ? Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up ? Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from?? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and all of that crap . . .. . . and all of them are in jail. Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back. People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now. We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard. We cannot blame the white people any longer.' Dr. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby, Jr., Ed.D.
NEW WAY TO DO CAR JACKING
Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating...
You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse.
When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off.
They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.
So now the car jacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!
BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED....
If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away!
Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail.
I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women.
A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.
