On Board with the CCPO - 25/06/08

Dear Members,

To all our businesses supporting this organisation and paying their monthly contributions on time, a VERY BIG THANK YOU; to those who are owing me money, please bring your payments up to date. If in doubt, just give me a call and I can advise, if, you have outstanding amounts owing.

The same message goes out to all our members who choose to pay via any method other than debit order. Please ensure that you are up to date with your fees and to our regular debit order members whose payments go thorough every month thank you. To those who know their payment has not been honoured by the bank please deposit the amount into our account, with your name and the month it did not go through as reference. Thank you in advance.

Recently I needed some help for a promotion involving CCPO and Blue and I should like to thank Ivan of Fridgecair and the Rib & Braai Shop for helping me in my time of need. I was not familiar with what they did there, the name made me think it was a business that fixed fridges. Well what a lovely shop they have and the items for sale in the Rib and Braai shop look absolutely delicious. They must be, if the constant flow of customers dipping into their freezers, for ribs and braai items was anything to go by. They have all your gas needs covered and of course friendly service. So, thanks to the De Beer's for assisting me at the beginning of the month.

A few days ago I advised that, the CCPO office could be used as a collection point for any items, members might like to donate to Flood Victims. I have the contacts to send them on to. Thank you to Liz and Chris for food stuffs, to L & J Tool and Engineering Works for the large donation of blankets,

And to our other CCPO members who have sent in bags of clothing as well as blankets. I have been advised that most of these items will go to the local community who were victims of last week's floods. The Red Cross have Shoprite Checkers assisting with their collections.

Here are our updated Body corporate and Business lists. If you're not on this list, please give me a call!  031 9140132

Chat with the CCPO - 23/06/08

There are many who would like to help those who have been affected by the recent floods, but are unsure where to take their donations.

I have contacted the Salvation Army at Sunset Lodge and Robbie, tells me that the Red Cross as well as the Rotarian's are all collecting food and clothing for those who have been affected. A lovely lady by the name of Liz has dropped off dog food as well as samp with me, in order to have it distributed to those who are in need of the help. It is with this in mind that I am sending this out to let you know that I believe a number of the Schools are also collection points for items badly needed by these flood victims. Check with your child's school. The Salvation army have already sent out a vehicle to the Port Shepstone area and collections coming in now will be used largely for those in our immediate area. Therefore if any one would like to donate to these flood victims you can deliver directly to the Sunset Lodge, or the CCPO office at Rutherford Plumbers, Unit 4, 13 Palmgate Crescent, Southgate Business Park, and we will pass your donations on to those dealing with it directly.

Thanks in advance.

Crime with the CCPO - 20/06/08

Dear Members,

It appears that an error was made in our last newsletter and we would like to point out the it is in fact Budget Van Rental that continue to offer their support in the form of the bakkie on loan to us . Thank you, Richard, apologies for the error. Please remember to support, Budget Van Rental, in order for us to continue to have the use of the Budget Van currently on loan to us. We like to encourage all CCPO members to support those who support them.

Don't forget that Blue Security continue to support the residents of Amanzimtoti, by having their Response vehicles available to the CCPO team when and if required, at no cost to the organisation. URGENT WARNING TO MOTORISTS

On ECR's Crime Watch (10/06/2008), the Presenter mentioned about a women's cars being pushed into, from the back, in Durban central - at robots. Then if she gets out her car, they are hijacked, as there is a car next to the victim as well as behind.

I experienced this first hand on Sunday (08/06/2008) at about 6.15pm. I had collected tickets from the ICC and was coming up Pine Street to get back on the highway.

I was at one of the many robots, looking around me as I felt rather anxious. A taxi was on my left, another car on my right, and one about 3 metres behind me.

While the robot was still red, the one behind me started coming towards my car and then bashed into me. I heard this crunch, but instinct told me not to react, even though I was worried about what was going on. I carried on looking into my rear view mirror, and the two black men just carried on staring at me, obviously waiting for me to get out of my car. Once the robot changed, I sped off and looked behind to get the registration number of the vehicle. However, the car had no front lights and no number plate. There must have also been a protection of some sorts on their car because my car was not at all damaged.

The car was a really old unroadworthy white Toyota Corolla with no front lights and no registration plates.

NUMBER PLATES

A new trend is people stealing number plates off vehicles.  It is then attached to the rear of their own vehicles and when they 'pump & run', the number plate is recorded by the petrol attendant.  It could be traced to you and the onus is on you to contradict the evidence.

Check your car frequently to ensure that both the plates are intact.  If one is missing,  file a report with the SAPS immediately!!! When the license plate is  reported as the "drive off vehicle," it will be you who will receive a call.

BLUE ALERT

On 2008-05-30 at 16h38 the reaction officer responded to an incident in Kingsway Road, Toti. Two suspects had broken into premises. Entry was gained via the kitchen door. A bag containing clothing and a camera were recovered.

On 29th May 2008 at 01h15 suspects gained entry into a premises in Ocean View Road, Amamzintoti. The window of the premises was left open and the suspect gained entry through the burglar guards. A CD player, sub woofer and jewellery was taked. On 03h51 on the same day, four suspects went back to the premises. The reaction officer arrested all four suspects and the property that was stolen earlier in the morning was recovered.

Have a safe weekend all.

Safety Tips

Hi All

I am sure you have read about some of the tactics criminals in South Africa are using to surprise their victims and carry out their crimes.

We are not the only one's who watch TV and listen to the news on the radio. Criminals often use Media as a way to gather information and as a way to pick up tips and ideas on how to perpetrate their crimes.

A number of tactics that the criminals are using in America have found their way to our shores here in SA.

Be Alert and always listen to your gut warning, if need be call a friend, neighbor or loved one if you feel uneasy about your surroundings.

Gary Smith

1. The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you... Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their chequebook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

A.) Be aware:

look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat

B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side... If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.

IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. (This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her "Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam: If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors!

NEWSLETTER - 17/06/08

The CCPO is a year old and we're going strong.

Crime is high at the moment and hit us hard with a hi-jacking in Toti on Saturday afternoon, which ended in the shocking murder of a young girl, and another in critical condition. Although it leaves us feeling desperate and powerless, we cannot give up. We need to come together and look after ourselves, our town and its people. We need to increase the CCPO family. Please make it your mission to sign those neighbours, friends and family up. We can make a difference.

On a positive note, our golf day was a HUGE success and the community were absolutely fantastic. We raised a whopping R22 000 and people really put their hands in their pockets to make the day hugely successful. A special thanks to Michelle Watson of Corporate Concepts who did a superb job in organizing the event. Michelle, your energy levels and organizational skills are amazing! The cherry on the top was the hand-over of our new Toyota Corolla by Nigel Ward of Toyota SA. Manufacturing. The fact that we have the support of such a significant sponsor inspires us to keep moving forward. Look out for Les in the Red Corolla! Congratulations to the winners of the golf day from Coronatech, Bobby Milne and Hilton Hardman who won a R500 travel voucher organized by Anchor Travel as well as a weekend away, donated by Protea Hotels through the efforts of Dianne of Anchor Travel. The best dressed award, sponsored by Trade Centre went to the Nappy Boys, Les Brown, Chad Holms, Marti Lodetti and Rod Wilson .The winner of the Starlight Cruise draw was Marti Lodetti, prize organized by Anchor Travel once again. A separate newsletter will follow this one all about our CCPO Golf day. Take a peek at the pictures on www.ccpo.co.za

After a year, the infrastructure of the CCPO is set, and strong. Our office is running perfectly in the very capable hands of Tracy Campbell, with the support and guidance of Harris Management Services. Yvonne Klopper is still moving full steam ahead, performing our marketing function and reaching the community.

The CCPO family has a fleet of 5 vehicles. Special thanks to Toyota SA. Manufacturing, Budget Van and Truck Rental, Hyundai Amanzimtoti, Heartland Leasing, and the community for their generosity in contributing toward our Vehicle Fund.

The CCPO is represented 24 hours a day by Les, Wayne and Mike, and they continue to work tirelessly, curbing crime - eating, sleeping and dreaming the cause. We are very lucky to have them.

The committee are continuously meeting, re-thinking, problem-solving and juggling to keep the momentum going and to make sure funds are spent wisely. The support of Secure Logic, SAPS, Metro, and Blue Security has gone a long way toward ensuring the success of the CCPO, and the fact that we have achieved so much, with only 10% of our community's support, is phenomenal.

With our 1st birthday, and the legislated increase in the Security industry coming up on 1 September, we are pushed financially, to increase the monthly contributions. However, we feel that with our VAT registration and the forced increase of 14% to accommodate that, we are hesitant to introduce the increase at this stage. If there is anyone at all who feels they wish to increase their contribution voluntarily, even by R10 a month, or should you wish to make a once off contribution, please contact Tracy at the office to give her your consent to make the amendments. We have so many plans going forward, but we need your money!

We are in the process of scheduling our AGM and will inform you all once a date is set.

As an ongoing fight against crime, please do all you can to increase the awareness. Report everything to SAPS so that we have an accurate record of crime stats. We love our country, and we don't want to be foreigners in someone else's country because we can't live in our own. Most importantly, get rid of the negativity, and have HOPE.

Thank you all for a fantastic year - we couldn't have done it without you!

That message came to you from Cindy and I should like to add to it by saying:

Members, time and time again, I hear how many similar groups have tried to start organizations similar to what we have here with the CCPO. They have started strong and within a few months have fallen away. Our strength is in the commitment made by the CCPO Committee and the wonderful group of people who are employed to undertake this job employed by Secure Logic and especially the commitment made by Les and Wayne, not forgetting our newest member Mike. As Cindy said "Thank you all- we couldn't have done it without you!"

Regards
Cindy and Tracy

Crime With the CCPO - 26/05/08

Snr. Supt. Grobler tells me that we here in Toti, are not experiencing as much crime as our surrounding areas. I like to think that it is as a result of CCPO's efforts and all the assistance the community give towards the SAPS. We all live here and are working together to Create a safer place to live. together.

To assist us in our efforts Blue Security have joined us in fighting crime together. They have made their vehicles available to us in times of need, with back up response. They have a special offer on to all CCPO members. R195.00 per month, if you are not a member of CCPO yet then signing with us at the same time will give you that phenomenal rate. Please see attachment. Pass this on to your friends who have still failed to join the CCPO, a worth while cause, if ever there was one. All enquiries about BLUE to go straight through to them at 031 7175016.

From the Op's Managers

On Thursday 29th in the early hours around 2am, Wayne and the guards arrested a gang who had earlier broken into a house on Ocean View Road in Winklespruit, and had returned for another break in further down the road. All the items stolen from the 1st break in were recoverd many kilometres into the sugar cane, before the suspects were handed over to the SAPS.

Saltwood Road, and behind on Old Main there has been a lot of activity lately, no specifics at this time, just to let you know to be more vigilant than usual.

Blue Alert already advised us of the coloured markings outside our gates

They are using the following colours:
  • Green - this is for Housebreaking
  • Red - for Hijacking and theft of motor vehicle
  • Blue -Theft out of motor vehicle.

The current trend of house break in's appears to be entrance through the roof, wait until any would be response has come and gone and then take their time helping themselves to what they want. Tying up any employee's who may be on the premisis or members of the family who may return home.

The signage for our vehicles has been finalised so you will be able to notice us in and around your area now. Wayne still in his Corsa bakkie, Les in the loan vehicle from Richard of Budget Van and Truck Rentals. Please remember to support him, it is imperitive if we are to retain use of this vehicle.

Until next time.
Stay Safe.

Tracy Campbell
