Chat with the CCPO
Hi there to all! We have some exciting changes happening within the CCPO! Our current service provider, Secure Logic, has decided not to renew their contract and it became necessary to put the contract out to tender. Aside from being the most reasonably priced company, Blue Security are also willing to work within our infrastructure. They are already offering a special armed response rate to our CCPO members, and have made a patrol car available to respond to CCPO emergencies. Their vehicle carries one of our radios at all times. It therefore made sense for us to incorporate their guards into our operation and we are very excited to have them on board. There have been a few calls & e-mails received by the CCPO office concerning the reduction of guards and I wish to clarify the following. Because our existing company has chosen not to renew their contract with us, the compliment of guards did dwindle during June & July. Secure Logic payment terms were 30 days and although our monthly contributions didn't always cover our costs, we were able to make payments timeously because of these extended pmt terms. Blue Security however, have indicated that they cannot grant these same terms, and our pmt needs to be made to them by the 7th of every month. Although the CCPO did not request this reduction in Secure Logic guards, because we only pay for the guards on shift, it has served as a forced saving by the CCPO, and enabled us to make current pmts to Blue with effect from 7 September. We may need to reduce the number of guards slightly from our original number of 14 day and 18 night shift for a few months, just until we are financially sound. Unfortunately, we are in a situation where 10% of the community who are CCPO members, are supporting 100% of the community as a whole! I know it is frustrating to pay R50, R100 or R500 toward the CCPO, and then not to see the guards in your area, however, please bear in mind that one guard on a 12 hour shifts costs R6200.00(24hour shifts totals R12 400). We therefore have no option but to concentrate guards on "hot spot" areas, which are being identified, and are changing all the time. Therefore, if you haven't seen guards in your area, it means that where you live is relatively crime free for now. Please do not withdraw your membership because you do not see guards in your area. A reduction in membership would mean we'd have to reduce our guards, crime would increase and eventually, the CCPO would cease to exist. It is obviously easy to see crime that has occurred in our area, but difficult to determine what crime has been avoided due to pro-active policing and the community working together. Our 10% membership is far off the mark of where we wanted to be with the CCPO - this indicates that 1 in 10 households have signed up! Obviously, increased membership means more guards, which in turn means we can run along the lines of preventative, pro-active policing, which was our initial aim. So please urge your neighbours and community to join so that we can get the operation back on track Over the past few months in particular, we have had occassion to meet with other Crime Fighting groups, media & press. They are all in awe of the Amanzimtoti community, and how we have stood together, and in their opinion, our endeavour has been the most successful in South Africa to date. We are growing slowly, we have made our first year, we couldn't have done it without you and it will only get better! Please bear with us, give us your support and take pride in the fact that you are doing something. . If you have any concerns at all, please pop an e-mail to Tracy, and she will forward it to the relevant committee members, or myself, to respond. Please remember, the CCPO belongs to you. Kind regards Cindy

Well done to Les and Wayne and their team for their on going efforts in the fight against crime. Thank you to those who helped towards the Flood victims all the items sent in to me were used amongst our local community, distributed via the Rotarians. As far as crime is concerned, Hijackings are on the increase, with two occurring in the Warner, Baggies Beach area, close to the Bulls Café. The Winkle Beach parking area, also experienced a hijacking around the 20th June. So be alert, and if it happens to you; when told to leave your vehicle, do so quickly, It may be the difference between life and death. An armed robbery occurred in Athlone Park at the post office yesterday, Les was there as it went down, but the suspects managed to get away. We believe that a shop in Winkle, selling vegetables was also hit in the last two days. Not sure of the exact location, not CCPO members. Housebreakings have occurred in the Athlone Park area, around Burne Road and Ijuba Road. Suspects were seen carrying large black bags in Krantzdraai Street but fled into the bush. House Robbery however is right down at this time. Vehicle theft is on the increase, so ensure you do not park off the beaten track and lock your vehicles. Don't leave parcels as invitations to would be criminals. Lock them in the boot or at lease put them out of sight. The majority of vagrants have been moved out of the Toti areas as well as suspect car guards. A mixed racial group of youths between the ages of 12 and 16 have been terrorising people in the Toti area. It started with an assault of a 13 yr old at the Night Market, where at least two were under the influence of an unknown substance. They were again observed on Toti main beach on Saturday 2008-07-05 where they were sitting smoking and loitering and late Sunday night they were tormenting motorists by walking in front of vehicles in and around Kingsway and Adams Roads. Rather be wary of this crowd one never knows what their next act of violence may be or if they are possibly armed. Blue Security continues to assist us and they have extended their special to the CCPO clients. All CCPO members have the opportunity to join Blue at a cost of R195.00 per month, until the end of July. Every member signed with Blue is supporting CCPO as we have the assistance of their response vehicles in time of need. www.bluesecuritiy.co.za Or ask for Tamaryn on 031 717 5000 Amazing Glaze at unit 1, 2 Coralgate Cove, Southgate Business Park, Amanzimtoti need to be thanked for providing Anti Smash and Grab Window Protection to both of our new vehicles at no charge. Thank you Amazing Glaze. Furthermore they have offered all CCPO clients Anti Smash and Grab Window protection for only R1300.00 inclusive, normal price being R1650.00. You are saving R350.00 and then they are still going to donate R100.00 to the CCPO. So all CCPO members please support them, as supporting Amazing Glaze means we are supporting the CCPO. Once again promoting the 'support those who support you' campaign. The CCPO have made contact with a national group known as CIC (Community Intelligence Centre). They provide the public with a number of services for crime prevention. Have a look at their website. www.cicfamily.co.za They shall be changing their name to SA CAN and together with the CCPO and Stop Crime Say Hello, we are in the throws of organizing a One Voice Against Crime concert for the Toti and surrounds residents. Awareness is what it is all about. More information on CIC / SA CAN: CIC/ SA CAN is business harnessing communities, local businesses, government services with innovative strategy, communication and technology to power effective crime prevention and service delivery to South Africans.

For more on who they are, and how to join with them, either as a partner, at no charge, where you are part of a powerful South African anti crime network, or as a family member where you pay towards access to their Emergency Support Line 24/7.
Today we do have a shortage of guards due to the stay away. Please remember it is not about us being in your particular street but rather in the area. We do not have the work force to be in all streets every day. The Operations Manager, Les and his Superintendent Wayne, continue to manage the guards, placing them in strategic spots as crime trends change.
We continue to thank Richard of Budget Van Rental for the use of the Budget Van, and remind you to support those who support you. Our next On Board list will include contact numbers for easy use as per the suggestion from one of our members. Budget Van Rental 031 4612050 or www.budget.co.za.
Until next time
Stay safe Tracy
