CCPO News

Firstly thanks to Hypersure and the McCann's for the chairs. All we need now is a table and we will be able to set up a meeting room in the caravan.

The Amanzimtoti Trauma Unit (old SAFECARE) is looking at closing down due to lack of funds. This organisation plays a vital role in dealing with the trauma that arises from crime in our town. It will be a loss to us and our community if they were to close. They go out and assist with any trauma cases including Highjacking, rapes, murder, spousal/child abuse etc. They have a house in Doonside (if you take the Doonside off ramp, you will see their house on the corner on the left). Anyone who can assist in any way please call in and talk to them or phone 031 9037777.

Warning & Help

Well we started Friday with an arrest at an attempted housebreaking suspect in Nelson Road.

A CCPO member has asked me to warn anyone wishing to employ domestic workers or gardeners to verify their ID’s before employing them. She recently employed someone from an ad in the Sun: the person worked for ±1 hour and left. When the member checked her home the spare keys had been placed in the pool room. She assumes ready to be used to gain access to her home.

For about R60 ID verification can be done but, only with written consent of the applicant. If you require this service contact Carol on 0823344293.

HELP – we really need one or two extra chairs in the office. If anyone can help please let me know.

CCPO does it again

Can you believe IT? As I sent out the previous news brief the CCPO responded and 3 more car thieves were arrested in Kingsway.

Well done Wayne and Rupert for your quick response and action. That makes 6 arrests in 2? days; WOW!

Let's hope we can make Toti too hot to handle for the criminal element.

CCPO NEWS

We have had a busy few days so far this week. Two arrested in Athlone Park on Monday and one arrest yesterday (the Black VW Golf) crowd. These people have all been involved in housebreaking in the area. We also assisted SAPS yesterday with a chase and arrest of escaped suspects. Please be on the lookout for a RED Golf (badges attached to the grill); may be linked to the Black Golf incidents.

Reminder of things you should never do:
  • Go out at night to investigate strange noises like running water, stones on your roof, stranger calling from the gate, someone hitting your wall repeatedly with a stick or anything else that could be used as a trick to lure you outside. (When in doubt, don?t go out.)
  • Do not allow meter readers, delivery people etc. in without being 100% sure who they are.
  • Do not let delivery people see the layout of your house. If they are delivering a fridge and you can get family of friends to help you carry it in make the delivery guy drop it at the gate and you carry it in yourself.
  • If not, close all the internal doors in your house let them drop it in the kitchen and leave.
  • Do not sit watching TV at night with your doors unlocked
Things you should do:
  • Make it as difficult as possible for scumbags to invade your home.
  • Turn one room in the house into a safe room
  • Go over emergency procedures with your family in case of an attack.
  • Have your house number clearly marked on your gate/ wall/ sidewalk.
  • Have adequate lighting outside.
  • Cut down any bush that criminals could hide behind.
  • Have SAPS/CCPO paramedics and security companies phone numbers displayed next to your phone
  • Make sure that you are with a ?reliable? security company if you have one.
  • (Question your security company. How many vehicles do they have dedicated to the area? What is their average reaction time? Ask them to prove it. Ask friends and neighbours who they are with and if they are happy with the company. Remember your security company could save your life)
  • Test your alarm system once a month (Phone your security company before doing a test)
  • Get to know your neighbours, get their phone numbers.
  • Report all incidents to SAPS no matter how small.
  • Get everyone in your street to join the CCPO

News Letter 7 October 2009

It has been another month of housebreakings/house robberies topping the list of crime in Toti.

Thanks to all those who phone or email information to the Control or office. Please try and get registration numbers when you spot suspicious looking vehicles. It helps so much when we have good descriptions, etc.

We get a number of phone calls, usually a day or two later, from members reporting what they call petty occurrences at their homes or surroundings. Please do not hesitate to call the emergency number if you see or hear something which does not seem right. That?s what we are here for and often the petty incidents are forerunners to larger more serious crimes being committed.

We are still desperately trying to swell the CCPO membership. If your neighbour is not a member and you don?t feel comfortable approaching them drop me a line with their name and number and I will follow up the lead to try and sign them on. I really appreciate the assistance so far.

On a light note: The Farmers Market at Lords every Tuesday from 10h00 to 12h00 is well worth a visit. The eggs, veggies, jams and pickles, etc are really great and good value for money. Highly recommended and these people desperately need your support.
