News Brief 25/02/2010

GALLERIA HIJACKINGS
I have been inundated with emails asking for confirmation of this incident. The CCPO did not attend anything at Galleria and can therefore not comment or verify this information. Perhaps this week?s local newspapers will have more information regarding this alleged hijacking. Galleria Management have stated that they are investigating the allegations.

DOMESTIC WORKER SAFETY TRAINING/TALK
To date I have only had 3 responses to my previous news brief concerning the above. Unless I get more considerably more people who are interested we will be unable to conduct this in the area.

CCPO AGM
The CCPO AGM will be held on Thursday the 18th March 2010 at 19h00 at the Amanzimtoti Golf Course. Only members may attend. Please indicate whether you will be attending in order to get an idea of numbers.

Some tips which were sent to us:

Hijackers are now tying your electronic gates closed with cable ties.
When you arrive at your gate, it will not open. You then get out of the car to inspect the gate and that's when they strike. If your gate does not open, drive away and phone your security company or the CCPO, get help to check if you can see cable ties.

Hijackers throw EGGS at your vehicle.
The hijackers throw eggs at your vehicle hoping that when you will then slow down and put your wipers on. Once you put the wipers on, you cannot see a thing as the egg smudges your windscreen completely. This is just what they want!!! They stand a few meters away and once you pull over they attack and take you car. Maybe even your life. In the event of this happening to you just keep going. Open your windows slightly, put your head out the window for vision and just keep driving until you arrive at a safe place.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE - this could save your life!!

2010

Wow 2010: let's make this the year of the CCPO membership growing by leaps and bounds!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I got back to the office last Monday and my computer had died while I was away so a week later I am very busy playing catch up. However, thanks to Evan and Leon at Skytec it is all sorted again. Thanks also to Bruce at BK Computers for the extra memory which will help with our data base/network PC.

Please be extra vigilant as day time crime seems to be on the increase and it can only get worse with everyone back at work and children back at school. Report any suspicious characters or cars to our emergency number 083 393 5066.

Try to alter your routine, leave a radio on, try and pop home at varying times during the day if possible. If your neighbours are at home during the day, speak to them and ask them to keep an eye out for you.

Remember if your neighbours are not CCPO members send me their name, address and phone number and I will contact them. With spiralling costs we need to increase our membership. The fees are still R125 per house and R63 per unit/flat.

Thanks for all your support

Firstly thanks to Hypersure and the McCann's for the chairs. All we need now is a table and we will be able to set up a meeting room in the caravan.

The Amanzimtoti Trauma Unit (old SAFECARE) is looking at closing down due to lack of funds. This organisation plays a vital role in dealing with the trauma that arises from crime in our town. It will be a loss to us and our community if they were to close. They go out and assist with any trauma cases including Highjacking, rapes, murder, spousal/child abuse etc. They have a house in Doonside (if you take the Doonside off ramp, you will see their house on the corner on the left). Anyone who can assist in any way please call in and talk to them or phone 031 9037777.
